Students at Buckhorn Elementary School, Buckhorn High School, and Robinson Elementary School, when all were housed in the old A.B. Combs Elementary School. The event, called “I’m Worth It – Protective Factors for all”, was organized by the Kentucky River Health Consortium and several partner agencies, including LKLP, Perry County Schools, The UK Center of Excellence in Rural Health, Save the Children, Upward Bound, ARH, Kentucky River District Health Department, Kentucky River Community Care (KRCC), and more.

The purpose of this event was to acknowledge the trauma experienced by students and staff of these schools after the recent catastrophic flood, explore how traumatic events impact one’s life, and to build protective factors which allow one to withstand trauma. As a result, students were able to process their experiences, have meaningful conversations about how to take care of themselves, and practice the skills they learned to apply in their daily lives. The faculty and staff of each school were provided appetizers and snacks catered by Shenanigans in Hazard. Also, Coffee was provided by Hazard Coffee Company.
